FII PRIORITY EUROPE, PRESTIGIOUS SUMMIT GATHERED KEY LEADERS AND PROMINENT FIGURES FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD
Tirana, Albania, 16th-17th May, 2025 – The prestigious FII PRIORITY Europe Summit in Tirana was held alongside the 6th European Political Community Summit and attended by key figures, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, and Yasir Al Rumayyan, Chairman of FII Institute.
On behalf of DOK-ING, Mr. Gordan Pešić joined a high-level panel discussion to address one of the most crucial questions of our time: Can Europe win the trade game through industrial sovereignty? The session, moderated by Andrew Sollinger (CEO, Foreign Policy), featured insights from leaders across defence, mining, and policy sectors, including Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo (Chairman, Leonardo SpA) and Sahit Muja (CEO, Albanian Minerals).
Sharing insights from industry experience, Mr.Pešić challenged assumptions surrounding the EU’s €800 billion ReArm Europe investment, noting that while the figure is ambitious, its actual impact will depend on accelerated execution, cross-border collaboration, and cutting red tape. “This is not just about money,” he emphasised, “but about capability, urgency, and coordinated industrial delivery.” He advocated for a smart, dual-use investment approach, prioritising scalable technologies like unmanned ground systems, AI-enabled platforms, and modular defence solutions. Europe can lead in high-precision, mission-specific technologies.
One of the key themes was the necessity of building Europe’s future on dual-use technologies, scalable manufacturing, and sovereign control over critical systems. Rather than mimicking global competitors, the speakers emphasised Europe’s unique strength in precision engineering, mission-specific defence platforms, and sustainable production models.
Geopolitical disruptions and shifting alliances were seen as a wake-up call for the continent. The panel emphasised strategic resilience through international cooperation, not isolation. Collaborative projects, particularly those linking innovators from southern and eastern Europe with major industrial players, were highlighted as essential to achieving a more balanced and competitive European industrial base.
While acknowledging bureaucratic inertia and historical fragmentation, participants agreed that the current momentum is different, marked by political will, urgency, and a shared understanding of what’s at stake. Industrial sovereignty, they argued, is not a luxury but a necessity, and one that can fuel both security and inclusive economic growth across Europe.
