DOK-ING’S INNOVATIVE TOOL FOR RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT EARTHQUAKES IN CROATIA, PEK-001, HAS ARRIVED TO CIVIL PROTECTION

DOK-ING produced the “Earthquake Educational Container”, abbreviated PEK-001, for the Ministry of the Interior (MUP) of the Republic of Croatia and delivered it on October 23, 2023. This innovation highlights DOK-ING’s cooperation with the MUP in their continuous efforts to raise awareness about the earthquakes and prepare citizens for possible disasters. PEK-001 is intended for the Civil Protection and it will be used as a key educational tool during their events.

Tihomir Mendek, Project Lead Engineer of PEK-001 at DOK-ING stated: “This container is not just an ordinary room; its unique feature is derived from the possibility of simulating different earthquake intensities and conditions and providing the experience of earthquakes at different heights. The container enables an earthquake simulation on the following floors: ground, fifth, tenth, fifteenth and twentieth floors of the building, giving users the possibility to compare the earthquake effects at different levels.”

One of the key features of the PEK-001 is its ability to replicate earthquake sounds creating an authentic experience. In addition, accompanying video footage of the earthquake is also played, further enhancing the reality of the situation. The primary part of the simulator is the eMotion-1500 system, which is widely used in numerous industries such as the car industry, aviation, and railway sectors.

Through this unique educational approach about earthquakes, DOK-ING and Civil Protection hope to raise awareness of the importance of readiness and prompt actions in the case of an earthquake, particularly in seismically prone places like Croatia. PEK-001 represents a step forward in providing realistic experiences that will help citizens in better understanding and overcoming challenges caused by earthquakes. It is expected that this innovative Earthquake Educational container will become a key resource in the education of the population and contribute to the general raised awareness about earthquakes in Croatia.
